Casino Game Variance

Casino

Casino game variance is how far real sessions drift from a game's RTP. It widens outcomes both ways, shortens bankrolls, and never changes the house edge.

Casino game variance is the statistical spread of results around a game's expected value: how far a real session can drift from the return to player figure the maths model assumes. Variance is why two players on the same game at the same stake can end a night hundreds apart, and why RTP describes millions of rounds rather than an evening. Games sit across a wide range. Blackjack played to basic strategy and even-money roulette bets move a balance in small steps, while jackpot slots and single-number bets pay rarely and largely, which is what a high volatility rating on a slot describes. Higher variance means a wider band of outcomes in both directions and, for the same bankroll, a faster route to a zero balance — the house edge itself is unchanged. Variance can produce a winning session; it never produces a winning strategy, and no staking pattern converts one into the other.
