How we compare
We do not score operators and we do not rank them. We publish the same facts about each one, say where every fact came from, and leave the judgement to you. This page explains that, and what it costs us.
Why there is no score
Every operator here used to carry a rating out of ten, produced by a published formula. It is gone, and the reason is worth stating plainly rather than quietly dropping.
A single number has to decide what matters. Ours weighted licensing heaviest, which meant every operator on a lighter-touch licence landed within about a point of every other — the score separated regulated from offshore and told you almost nothing else. Reweighting it helped, and promptly made a different set of operators look better. That is the problem in miniature: the weights were a judgement about you, and we were making it on your behalf, invisibly, for every reader in every market.
A reader in a market the strictly-regulated brands do not serve is not helped by a list that scores everything available to them around four out of ten. What they need is the licence, the wagering requirement and whether they can get their money out, stated plainly and side by side. That is a comparison. A score is a verdict wearing the clothes of a measurement.
What we publish about every operator

Every one of these can be verified without opening an account. Where we do not hold a fact, the entry says so instead of estimating it — a missing licence number is shown as missing, not rounded up into a claim.
How the order on our listings is decided
Operators we can link you to appear first, then everything else alphabetically. We earn a commission when a reader signs up through one of those links (see our Affiliate Disclosure), so that ordering is commercial — and we would rather say so on the listing itself than let it read as a verdict.
It is not a quality ranking, and it changes nothing about the facts shown for any operator. Within each group the order is alphabetical, which asserts nothing at all.
What we deliberately do not do
We do not open accounts, deposit or play (see our Editorial Policy), so we make no claim about withdrawal speed in practice, support responsiveness, or how games behave in play. Those need an account and money on the table, and a claim we cannot evidence is worth less than no claim at all.
We do not name a winner. Our comparison pages show which operator has the lower wagering requirement or the broader banking list, because those are facts. They do not add them up into an overall pick, because the weighting of that sum would be ours rather than yours.
What this costs, and why we accept it
A number is easier to scan than a table, and review pages carrying ratings are eligible for star snippets in search results — which we have given up. We think the trade is right. A rating we could not defend line by line would be the most consequential unbacked claim on a site where people are deciding where to put their money.
When entries change
An entry changes when its facts change: a licence gained, lost, or verified against the register; responsible-gambling tools added or removed; bonus terms revised. Each review carries the date we last checked it.
