A cold wallet is a cryptocurrency wallet that keeps its private keys completely offline, storing them on a device or medium never connected to the internet so they cannot be reached by remote hackers. The most common form is a hardware wallet — a small USB-like device such as a Ledger or Trezor — but a paper wallet, where keys are simply printed or written down, also qualifies. Because the signing keys never touch an online machine, a cold wallet is the standard choice for holding crypto you do not need to move often, in contrast to an always-connected Hot Wallet used for day-to-day transactions. Worked example: suppose you build a bankroll of 0.5 BTC, worth around 30,000 at a price of 60,000 per coin. You might keep 0.02 BTC (about 1,200) in a hot wallet or on the casino for active play, and move the remaining 0.48 BTC (about 28,800) to a hardware cold wallet. If the exchange or a hot wallet is later breached, only the small online float is exposed; the 28,800 stored offline stays untouched, because signing a transaction from it requires physical access to the device and its PIN. For a gambling player, a cold wallet is where your winnings should ultimately settle, not the balance you deposit and bet with — crypto casinos are custodial and no safer than any online account. The common mistake is treating the device as the only thing that matters and losing the recovery Seed Phrase, or storing that phrase as a photo on an internet-connected phone, which quietly turns a cold wallet back into an online target. Guard the seed offline. Compare with the hot wallet, the non-custodial wallet and your Private Key.
