Mines Game

Casino

The grid game where each safe tile raises the multiplier. Why more mines is a variance choice, not a strategy, and when the grid is fixed.

Mines is a casino game played on a grid of covered tiles, a set number of which hide mines. Each safe tile you reveal raises the round's multiplier; revealing a mine ends the round and loses the stake. The payout can be taken at any point before that, which is the only decision the game contains. The multiplier rises because each safe pick makes the next one riskier: fewer tiles remain and the same number of mines sits among them. Most versions let the player choose how many mines to place before the round, which changes both how fast the multiplier climbs and how likely the round is to end early. Choosing more mines is not a strategy that improves the expected result; it trades a lower chance of a long run for larger multipliers, in the same way a volatility setting does elsewhere. The grid is generated when the round starts, so the positions do not move as you play and no pattern of picks is safer than another. Implementations commonly offer a provably fair check confirming that the layout was fixed before the first click. Like crash and plinko, mines resolves in seconds and often carries an auto-play mode, so the number of rounds — and of stakes — mounts up much faster than the pace of a table game.
