A payment gateway routes deposits and withdrawals between a casino cashier and the banks, card networks or wallets behind each payment method.

A payment gateway is the technical middleman that carries a deposit or withdrawal between the gambling site's cashier and the banks, card networks or wallet providers behind each method. When you confirm a deposit the gateway encrypts the details, routes the request to the right processor, applies fraud screening and returns an approval or decline to the operator, usually in seconds. Larger sites connect several gateways at once so a method stays available if one route fails or a bank stops accepting gambling merchant codes. Players never choose a gateway directly, but it explains common experiences: a payment declined without an obvious reason, a deposit shown as pending, or a card statement listing a processor name rather than the brand you played on.
