PIX

PIX is the instant-payment infrastructure built by Brazil's central bank, the Banco Central do Brasil, and launched in November 2020. It allows money to move between any Brazilian bank or payment accounts in seconds, around the clock, every day of the year, using a simple addressing key. That key can be a CPF or CNPJ tax number, a phone number, an email address, or a randomly generated string, which removes the need to share full bank details. For online gambling aimed at Brazil, PIX is effectively indispensable. With well over 140 million registered users, it is the payment rail the overwhelming majority of Brazilian players expect, and an operator without PIX integration is cut off from most domestic depositors. Deposits typically credit instantly, and withdrawals settle far faster than card or international transfer methods, which improves the player experience and reduces abandoned cash-outs. In practice a deposit works by generating a PIX charge, often presented as a QR code or a copy-and-paste code, which the player approves inside their own banking app. Because the transfer is push-based and authenticated by the player's bank, there is no card chargeback mechanism in the way there is with cards, which changes how operators manage payment risk and refunds. The key caveat for players is that PIX is fast and irreversible, so funds sent to the wrong key or a fraudulent site are very hard to recover. Brazil's regulated betting framework requires licensed operators to handle payments through proper channels and to verify account ownership, so confirming that a site is licensed before sending a PIX is an important precaution.
