A bonus round is the separate feature phase of a slot that begins when the game's trigger condition is met, most often three or more scatter symbols landing on a single spin. It suspends normal base-game play and runs under its own rules: free spins, extra wilds, rising multipliers, expanded reels or a pick screen. Most of a modern slot's advertised win potential sits inside the bonus round rather than in ordinary spins, which is why base-game play can feel flat for long stretches. Entry is decided entirely by the random number generator, and nothing a player does changes how often it arrives. In high-volatility titles a bonus round may average once in several hundred spins, and every spin that misses still costs the full stake. Read the paytable to see what the round actually awards before assuming it is worth waiting for.
