A branded slot is a game built around licensed intellectual property — a film, a band, a television format, a sports competition or a celebrity — where the studio pays a rights holder to use the name, images and music. They are easy to spot in a lobby because the theme is the marketing: the title is something you already recognise.
What the licence buys is presentation, not mechanics. Underneath, a branded slot is built from the same parts as any other: a reel set, a paytable, a volatility profile, a maximum win and one or more features. Two games sharing a brand can behave completely differently, and a game sharing a brand with a beloved film is not thereby a better game to play. The published rules screen, not the poster, is where the mechanics are stated.
Two practical notes. Licences expire, and when they do the game is usually withdrawn from lobbies — which is why a branded title you played last year can vanish without any announcement. And branded games sometimes carry a heavier promotional presence, appearing in tournaments and featured rows; placement there is a commercial arrangement, not an indication that the game pays more than its neighbours.
