An Esports Major is a premier, publisher-sponsored tournament that sits at the top of a game's competitive calendar, such as a CS2 Major or a Dota 2 Major, gathering the strongest qualified teams and generating the heaviest outright betting interest of the season. Because the developer backs the event, prize pools are large, the field is the deepest of the year, and the outright (tournament-winner) market attracts more liquidity and sharper prices than routine matches. Majors run in stages: an opening or group phase, a playoff bracket, and a grand final, so betting spans outright winners, group-stage qualification, individual map handicaps and match-by-match markets. The larger 16-to-24-team field means the outright favourite is priced longer than in a small event, and value often hides in mid-tier sides that survive the group stage. Worked example: in a 16-team CS2 Major the favourite might open at 4.00 (implied probability 25%) to lift the trophy, with a dark-horse qualifier at 21.00 (about 4.8%). A 20 EUR outright stake on that dark horse returns 420 EUR if they win. Because the bracket is long, some bettors hedge as the field narrows, backing a second team in the semi-finals to lock in profit regardless of the final result. For affiliates, Majors are peak-traffic windows: search and betting volume spike for weeks, making them the highest-converting esports events to target with previews and odds content. Compare with a tournament-winner bet, group-stage betting and map betting to build a full picture of Major markets.
