A First Map Winner bet is an esports wager on which team wins the opening map of a best-of series, settled entirely on that first map's result and independent of who eventually takes the overall series. It is a two-way market in titles like CS2, Valorant, Dota 2 and League of Legends, letting you back Team A or Team B on map 1 alone.
Because it isolates a single map, this market rewards knowledge of the veto and map pool: in tactical shooters the first map is often decided by pick-and-ban, so which arena is played and each side's recent form on it matter more than the headline series price. A team favoured to win the series 2-0 can still be an underdog on a specific opening map, which is where the value in this market usually hides.
Worked example: a bookmaker prices Team A at 1.72 (implied 58.1%) and Team B at 2.10 (47.6%) to win the first map. You stake $25 on Team B at 2.10. Team B wins map 1 by a scoreline of 13-9, so your bet settles as a winner and returns $52.50 for a $27.50 profit, even if Team A goes on to win maps 2 and 3 and takes the series. The two prices summing above 100% reflect the bookmaker's overround.
Practically, availability and exact naming vary by operator, and some books float the map number while others fix it to map 1, so confirm the market and its void rules before staking, especially if a map is switched or a team forfeits. Compare with map betting, correct-map-score, total-maps and map-handicap.
