Colossal Symbol

A colossal symbol, also called a giant or mega symbol, is an oversized block that covers several reel positions at once, commonly two by two, three by three or a full column. It is read by the paytable as a separate symbol in every cell it covers, so a single colossal landing can complete matches across multiple rows simultaneously. Games use them on high-value symbols and on wilds, where a colossal wild can substitute across a large area of the grid. Colossal symbols are often paired with reel or grid expansion, so a block that would not fit the visible area drops in partially and is nudged or grown into place. Like most symbol enhancements, they lift the ceiling of a single spin rather than the frequency of wins, so games that lean on them are usually more volatile than plain payline slots.
