A shuffle machine, or automatic shuffler, is a device at the table that randomises cards mechanically instead of by hand. Batch shufflers prepare one set of decks while the dealer works from another, so a fresh shoe is ready the moment the current one is finished. Casinos use them for consistency and speed: a machine order is harder to manipulate or read than a hand shuffle, and dealing resumes almost immediately.
The practical effect for players is pace. Removing the shuffle break raises the number of hands dealt per hour, and because the house edge applies to every wager, more hands means more money staked and a larger expected loss over the same length of session. Setting a time or loss limit before sitting down is the sensible response.
